In a recent report from Northeast Qiqihar on November 9th, it was noted that as temperatures dropped, the fur market has experienced a surge in activity. Rising raw material costs have led to higher fur prices, yet sales remain unaffected, indicating strong consumer interest despite the increased cost.
On the morning of the 9th, the reporter visited several shopping malls and found that fur shops were particularly busy. Even non-fur stores were offering a range of furs, with some items priced around 30,000 yuan. At one shop located on the third floor of Mart Plaza, fur coats were displayed above designer bag counters, featuring classic styles in black and brown. Prices were not lower than those at dedicated fur stores. The store owner explained that this year’s fur prices are significantly higher, with Shanghai's purchase price now exceeding 1,000 to 5,000 yuan more than usual. As a result, the final retail price is much higher than last year. Despite the increased cost, the store remains popular due to its modern and fashionable designs, which appeal mainly to young women in their 20s. Although the prices are slightly higher, many customers have been inquiring and trying on the furs this October, showing that sales are not affected.
The reporter also visited several specialty fur stores, where hundreds of different types of furs were available, drawing in a large number of shoppers. A store manager shared that this winter’s trends focus on women’s shawl collars, Korean-style hats, and men’s collars, jackets, and caps. Popular elements include sapphires, crosses, and purple dyeing, contributing to the growing demand for furs. Although prices have risen, sales remain steady, and the peak season typically begins in mid-December. This year, sales have already started to pick up, with a consistent increase in volume. Furs are not only warmer and more comfortable but also add a stylish touch, making them a popular choice even with minor price hikes. The main reason for the price increase is the high demand for fur and limited supply, leading to higher raw material costs. Additionally, as living standards improve, people are more willing to invest in luxury clothing, further driving up prices.
Later, the reporter visited a franchise store specializing in leather clothing. Autumn and winter are the peak seasons for fur and leather products, with leather jackets being a favorite among both men and women. This year, there are more styles and color options available, giving consumers greater choice. While leather garments previously ranged from 1,000 to 3,000 yuan, with high-end items reaching 5,000 yuan, this year’s raw material costs have increased by 20% to 30%. As a result, each leather garment now costs at least 200 to 500 yuan more than last year. Fox fur prices have gone up by about 40%, while Rex rabbit fur has risen by 50%. Despite the price increases, sales of leather clothing remain stable and are even showing an upward trend.
