Why is there amber in the coal seam?

May 21, 2021

Coal miners sometimes happen to dig yellow transparent amber ore in the coal seam. People can't help but ask, why is there amber in the coal seam?

In the Paleozoic, between 40 million and 50 million years ago, large forests were growing. At that time, the climate was warm and humid, and the trees grew thick and leafy. In the event of a strong wind blowing off the branches, a drop of resin will flow through the branches.

Afterwards, the ground slowly sinks, and a large number of trees and resin dropped from the branches are buried in the ground, covered with thick crustal weathering.

After geological action, the forest buried in the ground has been charred into black coal; and the dropped resin becomes strong and becomes a mineral. Since the chemical properties of the resin are very stable and difficult to change, the original color and transparency are maintained. This is the amber we have seen. Therefore, amber sometimes appears in the coal seam.
