Hello, friends! I hope you've had a fantastic week. Right now, I'm in a bit of limbo between major projects, which always makes me feel a little uneasy. We're about to dive into a couple of huge projects that will demand a lot of my focus, and I always get a bit anxious at the start of such big undertakings. But hey, I can't wait to get started on them soon enough! Before that though, we've got some exciting new Oliver + S spring patterns launching in a week or two, and I also need to design the next batch of Lisette patterns. It's going to be a lot of fun!
Yesterday, we had quite the adventure. S and her classmates are part of an after-school choir at our local music school, and we parents take turns carpooling them there every week. Yesterday was my turn, and as we approached First Avenue near Seventh Street, just a few blocks from our destination, we heard this massive explosion right in front of us. Turns out, we were just one block away from a fire and building collapse on Second Avenue. We managed to leave the area just as the police and firefighters arrived. It was terrifying for everyone—seeing the building with its missing facade and smoke billowing out. I was trying to think of ways to keep the girls calm when I remembered Mr. Rogers' advice to "look for the helpers." We talked about that as we walked the rest of the way to the music school. He’s right—you see so much hope in the presence of hundreds of New Yorkers and emergency workers rushing to help. I'm so glad we’re all safe. There were some emotional reunions after the choir practice.
Whew! Anyway, I have tons of fun inspiration and reading for you this weekend!
Pinterest Picks:
I showed S this portable picnic case, and she's super excited to make one during spring break next week. I think we'll give it a shot! I should probably start keeping an eye out for old vintage briefcases and paint-by-number canvases.

Such a darling Library Dress! Marlene added pintucks using the tutorial from Ashley and Emily (of Frances Suzanne) to give texture to the waistband. Love those colors!

Speaking of colors, this palette feels so serene and calming. I absolutely adore the simplicity of this gingham-inspired patchwork.

What is it about little girls and capes that’s just so irresistibly charming? I think it’s the layers. In any case, this herringbone cape with bias-bound trim could inspire a lovely version of the Forest Path Cape for spring, don’t you think? Those tonal Puppet Show-style shorts underneath are just too cute.

Today on the Lisette blog, we’re wrapping up our moto jackets. This outfit looks amazing, pairing a tough leather moto jacket with a sweet dress. Did you join the sew-along? If so, please share your photos with the Lisette Flickr group!

1. I have a funny confession: I unfollow every food-related Pinterest board that shows up in my feed (except for ice cream). I guess I just don't enjoy looking at pictures of food. Still, I find this video profiling a food photographer fascinating.
2. It's embarrassing to admit how accurate this video is: Chloe Sevigny’s Guide to Being a New Yorker. I especially loved the part where she navigates around a giant slush puddle while claiming she hates L.A. I wonder if Todd will return from San Diego this week or decide to stay until the weather improves here?
3. The wild world of high-end children’s clothing.
4. An intriguing story about a historic collection of Callot Soeurs dresses. And don't miss this part towards the end of the article. I've been thinking a lot about this topic and plan to write something soon:
“Clothing is different from most other museum objects. Garments never lose the imprint of the body that once wore them; indeed, the chemical interactions between the garment materials and the wearer’s body are ongoing. Even perspiration from a long-ago dance in a Tuscan garden may continue a century later to oxidize metallic threads or alter the fabric's molecular structure.â€
5. My favorite trend forecaster, Li Edelkoort, recently released a manifesto on the death of fashion. She made some very compelling points. It will be interesting to see if her predictions hold true over the coming years.
I hope you have a wonderful and safe weekend, full of warmth and perhaps even a little sewing time!
